Online Backup and Business Continuity

First, we’d like to acknowledge the Japanese people and wish them our blessings through this natural disaster. If you’d like to make a donation to the Japanese tsunami , you can do so through the American Red Cross.

It seems as though we’ve seen an increase in natural disasters – at least from this author’s perspective. So, we researched this to see if the frequency has in fact increased. Check out this link to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) which clearly shows the answer as a resounding…YES! For those of you who don’t want to click on the link, we inserted a chart that shows the increase in frequency.

The image speaks for itself, especially the little graph in the bottom right corner which addresses floods. Obviously, the initial emotions in the aftermath of a natural disaster aren’t focused on a person’s business, however, as time passes people do and will wonder about their businesses. If you saw CNN during the Japanese Tsunami, you saw some pretty amazing images of towns being overrun and destroyed by debris. A few days after we saw those images, we thought to ourselves, not much could have survived that. Data stored remotely or in the cloud really is the future for data storage – especially in regions that a prone to natural disasters.

Previously, we’ve written about the statistics concerning businesses affected by natural disaster and their inability to recover afterward because they didn’t have a Business Continuity Plan (BCP). The 2011 Hurricane Season is around the corner and they expect two (2) major hurricanes this year so we are encouraging everyone to take online data backup very seriously because when disaster strikes – it’s too late to react.

If you’d like to speak directly with one of our Backup Specialists about online data backup and online data restoration as a part of your Business Continuity Planning, we’d be happy to continue this discussion in person. Give us a call at 1 877 310-2884. We’re proud that all of our Backup Specialists are located in the U.S.A.
